Scout Center De Eendenkooi always makes a conscious consideration in choices for furnishings or investments in which care for nature and sustainability are important benchmarks.
The sustainability investments were made in partnership with Stichting de Witte Roos and Fonds 1818.
The sleeping quarters are built with FSC-certified wood, so we can be sure of responsible forest management.
Solar panels were installed on the roof of the new dormitory. With this, our center itself generates about 35% of the electrical energy needed.
On our property, stormwater is not discharged to the sewer system, but instead drains into the surrounding ditches. This prevents drying of the site, as well as costs of wastewater cleaning.
The showers are equipped with start-stop mechanisms. This reduces the use of potable water and saves the fossil energy needed for heating.
For the planting of the yard, diversity that promotes the eco-system was chosen. The very diversity of plantings contributes to insect populations (especially bees) and bird populations.
For lighting, we mostly use LED lighting, partly based on sensors. LED lighting is energy efficient, with sensors we achieve that the lights are not on unnecessarily.
